BERI brought together practitioners and researchers in Berkeley, CA for a one day workshop on how to best leverage behavioral economics to improve the reproductive outcomes of women and their families.
Participants included faculty from UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, Harvard and Williams College as well as practitioners from Population Services International (PSI), FHI360, Pathfinder and BRAC.
The day included an overview of behavioral economics and BERI’s conceptual framework, practitioner led discussions on behavioral constraints that prevent successful outcomes, and a joint researcher-practitioner working session. The working session generated several evaluation ideas aimed at overcoming major challenges in reproductive health including male engagement and provider biases and served as a starting point for sustained partnership development. Moving forward, BERI will facilitate meetings and site visits to develop full evaluation proposals from these ideas.
